February 2018
HASA’s Executive Board is carefully monitoring all decisions and processes related to the centralized funding formula, which includes standardized staffing based on student-to-staff ratios, potential changes in magnet programs as well as redefinition of our current school choice systems. Additionally, members of our executive board represent administrator concerns on the various ad hoc committees.
We received many questions from members in response or our recent survey. We continue to seek answers from HISD administration. Since the situation continues to evolve, we have left the survey open so you may continue to communicate your concerns.
At this time we do not have sufficient information to create an accurate position statement. There are gaps in information related to the proposed FTE model, how magnet programs may change, and how historically low-performing schools will be supported.
Our members are actively participating in refining the district’s plans for a 2018-2019 budget. We remain committed to keeping you informed as we learn more and fully consider taking an official position on behalf of the organization.
In the interim, we appreciate your leadership and encourage you to follow us on Twitter @hasa_hisd where we will provide timely updates.
